The letter was issued soon after inspections of Midwestern Pet Foods Inc.’s manufacturing web pages found violations of the Federal Foodstuff, Drug and Beauty Act, the agency explained in a information launch.

An initial inspection of Midwestern’s Chickasha, Okla., plant was triggered by stories of ailment or loss of life in canine that had eaten the company’s SPORTMiX brand name dry doggy foods.
Samples of SPORTMiX had been found to include concentrations of aflatoxin as significant as 558 elements for every billion (ppb). The Food and drug administration considers pet foods to be contaminated if it has additional than 20 ppb of aflatoxin.
